Cricket Situation Sri Lanka

Yes, cricket again because it is a hot topic these days.Mahela Jayawardena has decided to step down from the captaincy and the Sri Lanka cricket board have also accepted it. So who will be the next candidate for the captaincy ?. This is an interesting question to be asked from anybody who likes this amazing game. My view is the suitable person for the captaincy is obvious because Mahela also mentioned it when he was addressing the media after submitting his resignation later. He is non other than Kumar Sangakkara but who will be the next vice captain?. Kumar Sangakakara has great potential for the captaincy in every version of the game. It doesn’t matter whether it is Test cricket, Oneday international or 20-20, this man is capable of leading Sri Lanka. I am pretty confident about Sanga’s ability because I have seen it for long time.

My selection for the vice-captaincy is T.M Dilshan because non other player is experienced as him except Sanath, Vass and Murali of course. Kapugedara as well as other playes have to gain a lot of things from the international cricket rather than bothering with the vice-captaincy.

Meantime I am really happy over Mahela’s resignation because I strongly believe that this man will definitely return to his form soon and that will be the birth of next Aravinda de Silva. Mahela is an ideal batsmen for the middle order and I don’t think that there will be someone who don’t appreciate this world-class classic batsman’s skills. He has got strokes around the wicket and he is strong both side of the wicket. I hope and wish that Mahela could be succeeded in his carrier after his resignation.

Sri Lanka lost the Indian tour for 4-1 as well as we almost won the 20-20 match unless the bowling of Dilhara Ferbnando. Sanath-Dilshan combination started the Sri Lanka batting and this combination seems to be a better investment for the 2011 wolrd cup because they showed some partnership during the whole series. Jayasuriya made one centuary in the first macth but he didn’t show the performance I expected from him. However, he hit some massive sixes in 4th ODI and the 20-20 matcha nd those sixes cannot be forgotten for someone who loves big hits. They were really flat strokes and those strokes showed how much power still he posses. Finaly I hope that our players s specially Mahela and Sanath may back in their usual form by the time of IPL and then we can have hopes for the next world cup which will be hosted on our country as well.

Android

The Open Handset Alliance with collaboration of Google has introduced their latest mobile platform Android to market through T-Mobile G1 recently. the users can download applications as well as developers can uploads applicationsNow to the Android Market. Android is a complete mobile platform which contains an operating System, Middle ware and a powerfully API. But the most interesting thing is that, the total mobile platform is Open Source and purely based on free and open source software. Google has released a SDK for Android application development and for easy use, there is an Android plugin for eclipse which is already done by Google. Moreover there are couple of mailing lists and you can earn a lot money using Android Developer Challenge. I think it will be a nice experience to have a look at Android because it seems to be the next generation mobile platform.

Problem first then the solution

Finally I found my final year research project and believe me, my supervisor is Dr. Nalin Ranasinghe. I forgot to tell u that I have A- for the literature survey and I have been selected as a 4th year student. The project is all about CUDA (compute unified device architecture ) from nvidia. I will put a separate article on my project later but I am now trying to tell you a valuable and important thing I learnt in the voyage of finding a final year project.

My first idea was to do something in the mobile technology and I came up with some crazy ideas and met Dr. Chamath Keppitiyagama. He appreciated my ideas but he pointed out one important aspect of my ideas. It was “ Thinking the solution first and define the problem second “. As soon as he told me that I realized what is the wrong with my project ideas and I think that single sentence gave me the knowledge of thousand books. I understood that the real innovation comes with the “ problem first and the solution second “ methodology and that is why I met Dr. Nalin in order to finding solutions for the increasing performance requirement for the future generation softwares.

MY HSPA connection

So the training period with the Lanka Software Foundation is over now and if everything goes fine, another academic year begins from the first of September. In the meantime, I have agreed to work as a part-time employee of the LSF. It seems that I shall have to work on three different projects through out the coming year and definitely it will be a hard time for me. So every minute is important and I am ready work as I have never done before. That is why I am going to by a MOBITEL HSPA connection. First I thought about DIALOG HSPA because it is the network I have ever used but the prices of the data package is higher than MOBITEL. Therefore I have decided now to buy MOBITEL 1500 data package with HUAWEI E220 usb modem. Let's have fun with my internet connection.

Sanath Teran Jayasuriya, the veteran, aggressive, skilled opening batsmen and the most threatening nightmare of any bowler who has to bowl to this master blaster and the greatest entertaining player ever in the cricket history. This little bit short but powerfully built Matara lion smashes the bowl all over the ground with massive amount of power, generated by his strong bottom hand. The strokes he plays around squire region and over third man are the evidence for the tremendous power he uses to hit the ball into the fence.

His favorite stroke is the squire cut and he plays it for any bowler if the bowl pitches out side the off stump. That is why it is said that Jayasuriya is really strong in off side and he goes anytime through the offside regardless of the fielder arrangement. But if you have watched Jayasuriya's innings, probably you may have seen that that the massive strokes which fly over the boundary line have been played on the onside. Because he has got a lightning pull stroke and soft flick of his wrist. The pull stroke sometimes makes Jayasuriya worrying because the short arm pull stroke was caught by several in the deep squire leg but now he does not play that stroke frequently.
Finally I hope that this interesting batsmen will play for the next world cup and I have great confidence that he will score a double century on a one day international.

Me, the GSOC student

I was able to be selected as a Google Summer of Code 2008(GSOC) student for the SAHANA organization which is the company where I have my internship. Gsoc2008 started on May and it will be closed on September this year. This is the first time that I involve in a large scale project (in my level) and it is a instant messaging (chat) application for the sahana disaster management system. This web based chat application is a hell of Javascript and some amount of PHP in addition it has to be integrated to the existing sahana GUI. One of the interesting problem I have faced is the caching functionality of web browsers. Because if a particular page is requested frequently then the browser caches the page. But the problem occurs when requesting the page after doing some simple changes. The browser still gives the cached page and the only solution I found is to clear the cache by time to time. I found this matter with IE7 and firefox3 browsers.

My gsoc mentor is Prabath and he also a former gsoc student graduated from the UCSC. So far I am doing well with my project and if SAHANA team requests ,I hope to develop it further. We had several gsoc parties and more parties are yet to come. But there are people in my side who still did not receive a treat from me. Don't worry because you will have it soon.
